Aquamarine is a gem variety of beryl that occurs in a sky-blue to sea-green color-mainly associated with granitic pegmatites (also mined for feldspar, quartz, and mica, among others). It is named for it’s color…like sea water. Having a luster that ranges from vitreous to resinous and a hardness of 7.5-8, it’s pretty durable and popular for jewelry.
