Cordierite

Cordierite (ˈkȯr-dē-ə-ˌrīt ) – (Mg,Fe)₂Al₃(AlSi₅O₁₈)

Cordierite is basically the same as dichroite. Iolite is a variety of Cordierite (you could say Iolite is gem-grade (violet-blue) version of Cordierite). A silicate mineral that occurs as grains in igneous rocks, it forms in the colors grey, blue, blue-violet, green(ish), brown, to colorless. It has a vitreous luster and a hardness at 7-7.5 and lives in the Orthorhombic crystal system.

Cordierite is helpful with insomnia, headaches (even migraines), body aches, stress, and optical issues. It is said to be beneficial for liver, gall bladder and digestive system functions. Additionally, it is helpful to strengthen the nerves and help with sore throats and sinus problems. It is also said to help with hair and nail growth.

Cordierite balances emotions, calms the mind, and allows you to focus on the decision or problem at hand. It is said to help heal the heavy heart, and is capable of shifting and transmuting negative energies. It is a motivational stone and promotes will power, self-confidence, and a sense of calm in the midst of the chaos of change.
